Men's slowpitch: Bell wins opener

Regular-season champion Bell Construction used an eight-run fifth inning to take control and held on for an 18-15 win over K&B Electric Thursday night in the first game of the Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League A Division finals.
Winning pitcher Frank Tibke helped himself by going 3-for-3 as Bell Construction banged out 19 hits. Casey Crandall went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored while Sean Babcock was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three runs. Wielding 2-for-4 bats were Morgan DuBois (double, grand slam homer, four runs), Mike Zaccardo (homer, two runs) and Nick Baker (double, two runs).
Phil Opera and Eric McGowan both went 4-for-5 with two runs for K&B while Justin Hogan (double, two runs), David Pitts (two runs), Codi Clayton (two runs) and Joe Moses all went 3-for-5.
Game two of the series will take place Tuesday on Meldrim Field starting at 8:30 p.m.
