Wright helps key Red Dragon comeback victory

Brett Wright was 3-for-3 with two doubles as Red Dragon rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 5-4 in the first game of Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball League A Division semifinal round action Wednesday.
In the other A Division opener, Grand Rental Station rolled to a 21-6 triumph over Central City Bar & Grill in a five-inning contest.
In the B Division semifinals, Hooley’s White nipped Outdoor Solutions/Hess 5-4 and Friends downed Hooley’s Green 11-5.
In C Division semifinal action, King Sub dumped Friends C 15-12 and Woodman’s Pun edged CCRP 9-8.
All winners hold a 1-0 lead in the respective best-of-three series.
A DIVISION
Red Dragon 5, Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 4: Dark Horse scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added two more runs in the third for a 4-0 advantage before Red Dragon countered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score. The Dragonmen scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Ed Kelly (double) and Mike Greco added 2-for-3 efforts with Chris Poli recording two RBIs for the winners.
Jason Reynolds, Kevin Wellings, Scott Potter and Pierce each went 2-for-3 for Dark Horse. Reynolds had two RBIs and Wellings scored twice.
Grand Rental Station 21, Central City Bar & Grill 6: grand Rental broke open a 10-9 game with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and ended the game with three runs in the fifth.
Waylon DeGraw went 3-for-3 with a double and home run while Jason Hogan was also 3-for-3 with a four-bagger to lead Grand Rental. Brian Taylor (two doubles), Dan Harris (double) and Frank Tibke added 3-for-4 bats while Casey Crandall was 2-for-3 with a triple and home run.
Joey Volpicelli was 2-for-2 for Central City with T.J. Griffin going 2-for-3.
B DIVISION
Hooley’ White 5, Outdoor Solutions/Hess 4: J.D. Burns was 3-for-3 as Holley’s White broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Scott Ochs added a triple and one RBI while Bronson McCall had a double and one RBI for the winners.
Jason Hicks was 2-for-2 for Outdoor Solutions/Hess.
Friends B 11, Hooley’s Green 5: Friends scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5 before adding six more runs in the sixth for the victory. Kevin Willcox, Bob Craig and Steve Young (two doubles) swung 2-for-3 bats for Friends,
Matt Rutkowski was 2-for-4 with two home runs and he drove in all five runs for Hooley’s Green with Ryan Pennello going 2-for-3.
C DIVISION
King Sub 15, Friends C 12: After scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 12-12 tie, King Sub turned a rare 4-3-5 double play to kill a seventh inning rally by Friends.
Bob Gable was 3-for-3 for King Sub with Dan Warner, Andy Warholic and Brad Sturdevant chipping in with three hits each.
Cory Romans led Friends by going 4-for-4 with Ryan Eddy (double) and Nate Cobb swinging 3-for-4 bats.
Woodman’s Pub 9, CCRP 8: Woodman’s scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome an 8-4 deficit and win this semifinal match-up.
Ken Peck was 3-for-4 with a home run to lead the Woodman’s attack while Jeremy Sutton went 2-for-4 (home run) and Martin Mudge was also 2-for-4.
Nick Hoffman went 3-for-4 and Dave Morris went 2-for-4 with one triple each for  CCRP.
