Men's slowpitch: Late rally saves Bell/Adhan
A seventh-inning rally by Bell Construction/Adhan Piping Co. highlighted the first game in the best-of three Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League A Division semifinal round playoff action Tuesday.
Mike Zaccardo went 4-for-5 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to capped a three-run winning rally by Bell/Adhan to secure the 19-18 victory over Central City.
Ink’s took the first game in the other A Division semifinal with a 9-7 victory over Coach’s Corner.
In B Division semifinal play.Study Hall edged King Sub 9-8 and Red Dragon topped Gator’s 6-3.
Game two in each semifinal takes place Thursday.
Bell Construction/Adhan Piping 19, Central City 18: Zaccardo had one double and two runs scored during his successful night. Troy Boice was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the winners. Frank Tibke (double, triple) and Fred Casterline each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Bill Kerry was 3-for-4 with one run scored.
Dennis Hopkins (three runs scored) and Tim Bauman (two runs scored) paced Central City as each went 3-for-4. Stanton (home run), Pat Casselberry and T.J. Griffin (double) added 2-for-4 efforts with two runs scored. Jeff Hopkins was also 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored.
Ink’d 9, Coach’s Corner 7:Ink’d scored once in the top of the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead and added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the victory.
Danny Briggs went 3-for-3 with two doubles and one home run to lead the Ink’d offense. Stacy Bischoff and Erik McGowen provided 2-for-3 bats with one double.
Chuck Pitts and Tim Wright each went 2-for-3 for Coach’s Corner. Jamie Buck was 3-for-3 with a triple and Anthony Pitts was 2-for-4 with a triple.
Study Hall 9, King Sub 8: Study Hall scored once in the top of the seventh inning to break an 8-8 tie to take the first game of its semifinal round.
In a team effort, Vic Quaile (double), John Canzano, Ed Rohwedder, Mike Lederman (double) and Josh Drake each went 3-for-4. Quaile drove in the winning run.
Dustan DiIorio (double) and Justin Goodband were each 3-for-4 for King Sub.
Red Dragon 6, Gator’s 2: Red Dragon broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third inning and coasted to victory.
Jose Feliciano led the Dragons going 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Steve Wright and Ed Kelly added 2-for-3 performances.
Bob Durbin, Ron Owens and Chuck Wilbur were each 2-for-3 for Gator’s.
