Trio moving on to playoff finals

Three of the four finalists are set in the Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch League softball playoffs as a result of Friday night’s semifinal action.
In the American Division, regular-season winner Grand Rental Station walloped fourth-place GSG Vincent/Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 20-1 to sweep their best-of-three semifinal series, while in the other semifinal third-place Red Dragon also completed a sweep with a 13-10 win over second-place Central City Bar & Grill.
In the National Division, NAPA, the regular-season runner-up, shaded third-place Hess 4-2 to sweep that series. Fifth-place Outdoor Solutions downed first-place Ivan’s 8-3 to force a deciding third game Tuesday night in that set.
AMERICAN DIVISION
Grand Rental 20, GSG Vincent/Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 1: Dan Harris (two doubles) and Dirt DeGraw (triple) both went 3-for-4 for Grand Rental Station, while winning pitcher Brian Taylor allowed just five hits. Andrew Pierce went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the losing cause.
Red Dragon 13, Central City 10: Red Dragon earned its spot in the championship series, which begins Tuesday night, as Mike Greco (two doubles), Jeremy Milligan and Dick Arnold all went 3-for-4 to pace the offense. Dennis Hopkins and Fred Casterline both went 3-for-4 with a double apiece for Central City.
NATIONAL DIVISION
NAPA 4, Hess 2: John Canzano went 3-for-3 while Derek Fiene and Mike Lederman both had 2-for-3 nights for NAPA. Tony Keegan went 2-for-2, Nick Hoffmann 2-for-3 and Cody Clayton 2-for-4 for Hess.
Outdoor Solutions 8, Ivan’s 3: Chris Maxfield was perfect in three at-bats, including a double, to pace an 11-hit Outdoor Solutions attack. Brian Clifford (triple) and Eugene Forehand (double) both went 2-for-3 for the winners. Tim Metcalf was 3-for-3 for Ivan’s, which got 2-for-3 performances from Ken Peck (double), Art Buchanan and Corey Romans.

The Cortland Over 35 Slow Pitch League will begin playoffs on Sunday, starting with three softball games all being played at 4 p.m. Preble Hotel faces Paddy’s Pub at Dexter Park, Woodman’s Pub meets Gator’s Tavern at Meldrim Field and The Tavern takes on Chuck’s Boys at Starr Road.
At 6 p.m. at Dexter Park, the winners of the Preble Hotel/Paddy’s and Woodmans’/Gator’s games will go head-to-head. At Meldrim Field, Red Dragon awaits The Tavern/Chuck’s Boys survivor in another 6 p.m. start.
