Gator’s finishes unbeaten
Billy Decker was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple as Gator’s Tavern wrapped up a perfect season in Jim Partigianoni Coed League softball play. After a 14-0 regular season, Decker’s perfect day helped Gator’s cap a 3-0 run in the playoffs with a 12-3 victory over ABL Lumber.
Earlier in playoff match-ups, Gator’s blanked Woodman’s Pub 14-0 in five innings and doubled up DA’s Yankees 6-3.
Gator’s Tavern 12, ABL Lumber 3: Gator’s scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added six more runs in the second to grab a commanding lead. The champs led 10-0 before ABL scored its runs.
Dave Hubbard was one of five Gator’s batters that added 2-for-3 bats to the winning attack. Hubbard hit a double and home run.
Ric Barber swung a 3-for-3 bat for ABL Lumber. Kyle Rogers chipped in with his 3-for-4 effort.
Gator’s Tavern 14, Woodman’s Pub 0, 5 inns.: Gator’s exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Seven more runs in the fourth helped shorten the game via the mercy rule.
Bill Epp led Gator’s as he went 2-for-3 with a double. Jack Barker added a double and triple with Mary Griffin and Lisa Wilcox also having two hits each.
Don Phillips was 2-for-2 to lead the Woodman’s Pub offense.
Gator’s Tavern 6, DA’s Yankees 3: Gator’s used a big first inning to again seize control of the game. After scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning, the winners scored an insurance run in the sixth.
Becky VanWagenen led the Gator’s offense by going 2-for-3.
Ryan Gross went 3-for-3 for DA’s Yankees as his team closed the gap to 5-3 with one run in the top of the second inning and two more runs in the fourth. Jason Kemp added a 2-for-3 effort with a triple and Nate Krause went 2-for-2.
