Legion, Elks slosh to scoreless verdict
In a rain-soaked regular season finale, Legion and Elks sloshed to a scoreless Giants Division tie in the Cortland Youth Bureau Small Fry Football League Saturday.
PBA finished first in the Giants Division standings with a 7-1 record, that team idle over the final two days of play at Gary Wood Field at Dexter Park in Cortland.
On Friday, VFW beat Moose 12-8 with all the points coming in a wild second quarter. VFW took the early lead with a pair of touchdowns, Lukin Pittman on the receiving end of a 30-yard Justin Prentice pass and Alfonse Gumaer returning a picked off pass the distance. Moose made it close when Aidan Stehm scored on a 15-yard pass from Anthony Ricottilli, with Scott Schlenker booting a two-point conversion.
IN MIDGETS DIVISION play, VFW wrapped up an unbeaten season Friday by beating Moose 20-12. The third touchdown of the game scored by Alex Babcock in the fourth quarter was the game-winner, off-setting a pair of TD runs by Dakota Bermudez and Dahkota Miller for the Moose.
On Saturday, Owen Lang and Jerad Berry ran for touchdowns as Elks blanked Legion 12-0.
— In play last week, the Moose nipped Legion 8-6 and PBA blanked VFW 7-0 in Giants Division play. In the Midgets Division, Moose topped Legion 20-6 and VFW defeated PBA 14-6.
