Cortland Basketball Club holds sign-ups Saturday

Tryouts for the Cortland Basketball Club’s Grade School Program will take place on Saturday from 2:15-3:15 p.m. in the County Office Building gymnasium.
The program of for players in grades 4-9, with practices on the weekend so not to interfer with Cortland Youth Bureau or the Junior High modified schedules.
The CBC is a not-for-profit, parent-supported organization under the direction of former Division I coach Buddy Mahar. The program develops both players and coaches and differs from most basketball group in that parents are not coaches.
The Grade School Program will play 25-plus games from December to March. Also in March, the CBC starts its AAU program, in which more than 25 games, including tournaments, will be played.
In the CBC’s seven years of existence, seven of its players have gone on to play college basketball and four coaches have continued their careers at various high schools and colleges. Of note, Jeff VanGorder, the Boys-7-Under coach, is the top assistant men’s coach at Hamilton College and Sixth Grade coach Kate Henderson Pitcher has been named the assistant boys’ junior varsity coach at Cortland High.
