Red Dragon matmen walk over Morrisville

The 20th-ranked Cortland wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts and defeated Morrisville State 36-3, in a dual match Wednesday night at Corey Gymnasium. The Red Dragons improved to 4-1 with the win, while the Mustangs fell to 1-4.
Cortland sophomore Sean Kempf started the night with an 8-2 win at 125 pounds. After the Red Dragons earned a forfeit win at 133, senior Aljamain Sterling, ranked seventh nationally, erased an early 2-0 deficit to secure a 7-2 decision at 141 and Cortland led 12-0.
The Red Dragons won the next four bouts to push their lead to 27-0. Junior John Cataldo recorded a 7-1 decision at 149 and sophomore Troy Sterling followed with an 8-4 win at 157. Sophomore Jonathan Conroy pinned his opponent just six seconds before the end of regulation at 165 and freshman Pete DelMonaco earned a 4-3 win at 174 by virtue of having more than one minute of riding time at the end of the bout.
Junior Wheeler Brunschmid registered the Mustangs’ lone win of the evening at 184, 4-3 over Cortland sophomore Chris Brown. Brunschmid scored the deciding points on a reversal just past the midway point of the third period. Cortland junior Carl Korpi won by pin in 4:09 at 197 pounds and Cortland sophomore Corey James recorded a 4-1 decision at 285 for the final margin.
