Saints sweep both Corning CA squads

It was a clean sweep for Cortland Christian Academy basketball against visiting Corning Christian Academy Thursday.
Luke Hatch had a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead Cortland boys to a 59-49 victory.
Korissa Kinney netted 14 points to lead the Saints’ girls to a 36-19 triumph over Corning.
Cortland Christian boys 59, Corning CA 49: Hatch had a big day of the offensive boards as eight of his 13 caroms were of the offensive variety. The final one coming in the closing seconds to seal the 10-point victory for Cortland (2-0 ESCAL, 3-0 overall).
Cortland led 12-10 in the first quarter. Corning (0-3) trailed 19-18 on a Patrick Pruden bucket with 3:48 left in the first half. Paul Forbes picked up his third and fourth fouls late in the first half with the visitors close behind, but he was forced to the bench and the Saints took advantage. Cortland closed the half with a 10-2 run to lead 29-10.
With Forbes still sitting through the third quarter, Cortland build its lead to 45-29 before the final quarter began. Corning tried to rally and closed the gap to 55-49 with 45 seconds to go. Micah Ploss connected on both ends of a one-and-one for Cortland and Hatch scored on an offensive put back with 10 seconds to go to make the final 59-49.
Peter Hicks had a double-double for the Saints with 12 points and and a team-high 14 rebounds. Jordan Rofe chipped in with 14 points.
Forbes ended the night with a game-high 26 points, Zachary Pruden provided 20 points in a losing effort.
Cortland Christian girls 36, Corning Christian 19: Cortland led 12-4 after first quarter play ended, but the Saints never really pulled away until the second half.Corning closed the deficit to 16-12 with under two minutes to play in the first half, but Cortland responded. The Saints were holding a 22-16 lead in the third quarter before closing the game on a 14-3 run to seal the win.
While Kinney was leading the offensive attack, Mariah Ploss chipped in with 12 points for the Saints (2-1overall, 2-0 ESCAL).
Kim Blake shored 10 points to pace the Corning (0-3) attack.
Cortland Christian Academy will return to action Monday as the Saints will North Spencer Christian Academy. The girls tip off at 5 p.m. with the boys to follow at 6:30.
