Prep squads set for tournaments

The post-Christmas, pre-New Year’s break brings with it the usual lineup of high school tournaments.
The Cortland High boys’ basketball team will once again host its annual Holiday Tournament at Ross O. Shafer Gym Thursday and Friday. The hosts face Homer Central at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in what will count as an OHSL Freedom American Division game after Interscholastic Athletic Conference foes Marathon and Dryden get things going at 5:30 p.m.
The championship game will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, right after the 5:30 p.m. consolation contest.
The Dryden and Marathon junior varsity squads will play at 1 p.m. before the 3 p.m. Cortland vs. Homer JV contest on Thursday. The championship game is at 2 p.m. Friday, following the noon consolation contest.
The CHS Alumni Game that is a tradition part of the festivities will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, between the JV championship and varsity consolation contests. Those program alumni interested in playing are asked to show up at the lower gym by 3:30 p.m. The game will pit either graduates from odd- and even-numbered years or “older” and “younger” players.
–– Homer Central girls’ basketball teams will travel to the Solvay Christmas Tournament Thursday and Friday. The Trojan varsity will face Henninger at 3 p.m. with the Solvay and Fowler the other first round match-up at 1:30 p.m. Homer JVs will play Henninger at 11:30 a.m. The Solvay and Henninger JVs open Thursday action at 10 a.m.
On Friday, the JV consolation game tips off at 10 a.m. and the varsity consolation at 11:30 a.m. The JV championship is at 1:30 p.m. followed by the varsity championship at 3 p.m.
There will be an Alumni Basketball game for all former Homer girls’ basketball players Saturday at 1 p.m. at the high school gymnasium.
The Cortland High wrestling team will compete in the Dick Vincent Dual Meet Tournament Thursday and Friday at Letchworth High. Besides the Purple Tigers and the hosts, the powerful field also includes Alexander, Attica, Avon, Byron-Bergen, Canisteo-Greenwood, Fillmore, Hornell, Keshequa, Olean, Palmyra-Macedon, Perry, Pioneer, Warsaw and Wellsville.
–– Marathon Central girls’ basketball will travel to the Kozalski Holiday Tournament at Bainbridge-Guilford High School Thursday and Friday. The Olympians will face Whitney Point in first round action Thursday with the JV game at 2 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 3:45. The host Bobcats and Windsor take the floor for JV action at 6 p.m. with the varsity teams to tip-off at 8 p.m.
Friday will have the JV consolation game at 2 p.m., varsity consolation game at 3:45, JV championship at 6 p.m. with the varsity title tilt at 8 p.m.
–– The DeRuyter Booster Christmas Tournament, another boys’ hoops event, will also take place on Thursday and Friday. McGraw and Waterville meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, with the hosts and Otselic Valley set to play a league game at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s consolation game is at 6 p.m., followed by the title contest at 7:30 p.m.
The JV event has the hosts going against Otselic Valley at 3 p.m. Thursday, while McGraw and Waterville go at 4:30 p.m. Friday’s schedule has the consolation game taking place at 3 p.m. before the championship game at 4:30 p.m.
–– The Cincinnatus boys’ basketball squads will take part in the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament on Thursday and Friday. The Red Lions varsity squad will take on Oriskany at 6 p.m. at the high school, where the hosts will go against LaFayette at 7:45 p.m. The consolation and championship games are slated for 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Friday at the high school.
Cincy’s JV team, meanwhile, will face Oriskany at 7:45 p.m. at the elementary school, after the 6 p.m. game between Fabius-Pompey and LaFayette. the consolation games are at 6 and 7:45 p.m., respectively, Friday at the elementary school.
–– The Cincinnatus girls’ basketball teams will compete in the Greene Tournament Thursday through Saturday. Both teams will take on host Greene on Thursday, the JV game starting at 2:30 p.m. and the varsity contest at 7:45 p.m. Sidney and Susquehanna Valley will meet in the other first-round games of both tourneys. The consolation games will be played on Friday, the JVs at 1:45 p.m. and the varsity at 3:30 p.m. The two championship contests will take place on Saturday, the JV at noon and the varsity at 5:15 p.m.
–– Homer boys’ and girls’ indoor track will compete in the Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Co-Ed Relays Thursday at 10 a.m. inside Onondaga Community College’s SCR Arena.
–– Dryden, Groton and Marathon indoor track teams will come to SUNY Cortland Thursday for a 10 a.m. Age Group Meet.
–– Dryden High girls’ basketball will travel to Odessa-Montour Thursday for non-league action. The Purple Lions will face the Indians in JV play at 10 a.m. with the varsity game to follow.
––The Marathon Central Wrestling team will travel to the Windsor Holiday Tournament Thursday and Friday. The action beings 3 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday.
–– The Cortland Homer Holiday Hockey Tournament will take place Friday and Saturday at the J.M. McDonald Sports Complex. Frontier from Section 6 and Cazenovia get things started at 5:15 p.m. Friday before the Golden Eagles and Fayetteville-Manlius meet in a Section 3 Division II West game at 7:15 p.m. Saturday’s schedule has the consolation contest starting at 11:30 a.m. before the 1:30 p.m. championship game.
–– Homer Wrestlers will travel to Dolgeville to compete in the Mountain Duals Friday and Saturday. Competition begins each day at 9 a.m. with the Trojans to have four matches each day. Homer is in Pool Blue with General Brown, Burnt Hills, Amsterdam, Camden, Albany Academy, Rome Free Academy and host Dolgeville. The Pool Green features Penfield, Indian River, Wayne, Baldwinsville, Adirondack, LaSalle, Averill park and Oxford.
–– The Cortland volleyball team visits Onondaga Central Thursday in non-league action, the JVs getting things started at 10 a.m. The varsity squad will then take part in the Hamilton Tournament Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
