Dryden boys routed
WATKINS GLEN — Dryden High boys came out of the chute slowly and it proved costly. The Purple Lions fell behind 17-3 in the first quarter to host Watkins Glens and the Senecas ran away with a 72-37 win in the opening round of their own holiday basketball tournament. Dryden (3-5 overall) will face Newfield (2-4), a 72-36 loser to Hornell in the first game Wednesday, in the consolation game today at 5:30 p.m. with the championship game to follow.
Watkins Glen allowed just three Dryden points, all from the free throw stripe, in the first quarter, while the stingy Seneca defense keep the Purple Lions from scoring from the field until 3:57 was left in the first half. Dryden trailed 28-12 at halftime.
Robbie Solveson led Dryden in the scoring column with 10 points while Pat Streeter and Barry Welch each netted six points.
Justin DeDominick led all scorers with 19 points while teammate Alan McIlroy netted 10 points.
