Twin wins for DeRuyter squads

The DeRuyter volleyball team got back into Central Counties League play Thursday night with a 25-7, 25-23, 25-11 win over host McGraw.
The Rockets girls’ basketball team, meanwhile, won for the first time in seven games this season, 37-16 over visiting Remsen in a Center State Conference Division IV contest.
DeRuyter 3, McGraw 0: “I thought we played well,” Rockets coach Gary Burdick said, his team now 2-0 in the league and 6-1 overall. “We served at 93 percent and also passed well. We had the opportunity to get all of our players in, and did well no matter who was in. Overall it was a good win.”
Kayla Hampton had three kills, seven aces, seven assists and two digs for the winners, while Danielle Cuddeback had five kills and two digs, Amber Slocum four kills and three aces, Bridget Way four kills and an ace and Emily Sinesi three kills, two blocks and an assist. All five played in only two of the three sets.
Kaitelyn Leonard had five kills and an assist for McGraw, whose record was not reported. Ally Augur had three kills and Valentina Levitskiy a kill, three aces, a dig and seven assists.
DeRuyter hosts Brookfield Monday and Living Word Academy visits McGraw on Tuesday.
DeRuyter 37, Remsen 16: The hosts led 8-0 after one quarter before the Rams rallied to trail by just one, 12-11, at halftime. DeRuyter then outscored its guests 25-5 in the second half. Amber Cox led the way with 12 points, while Jolene Cox added nine and Sam Gordon and Jessica Cox had six each. S. Fox had 12 points for Remsen.
