Panthers comeback tops host
AUBURN — After trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s basketball team rallied to beat Cayuga CC Thursday by a score of 80-74.
The Panthers are now 6-7 overall, 5-3 in NJCAA Region III, and 2-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga drops to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The game opened with the home team taking control before the Panthers came back to pull within two at the half. After keeping the game close to start the second half, Cayuga ran out to a 10-point lead before the Panthers rallied to the win.
Five Panthers scored in double figures, led by 18 from Charleston Collins, Jr. and 15 from Jonathon Charette. Andrew Jensen added 14 points while Cortland High graduate Tom Wilk and Chris Cartwright each added 13 points.
TC3 WOMEN could not hold a halftime lead as the Panthers fell at Cayuga CC 81-66. The Panthers are now 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. It was the conference opener for Cayuga, now 13-3 overall.
Jennifer Iler led TC3 with 20 points and six rebounds. Michelle Tuetken added 14 points and four assists while Kyla Knapp finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Cayuga’s Caitlyn Dillard led all scorers with 29 points.
TC3 hoopsters travel to Canandaigua to face Finger Lakes CC Saturday. The Panther ladies tip-off at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
