Panthers come away with split
COCOA, Fla. — The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team split a pair of games Wednesday. The Panthers topped WBS, a club team from Ontario Academy, Canada, 9-0 before falling to Chesapeake College (Md.) 3-2. TC3 is now 3-6 this spring.
Against WBS, pitcher Megan Kraeger tossed TC3’s second straight shutout, striking out seven and allowing just one hit over six innings. Ashley Greenough and Colleen Bannon each had two hits with Bannon’s including a two-run triple. Megan Beschler also tripled for the Panthers in the win.
Game two saw the Panthers fall behind early on a three-run homer by Chesapeake in the top of the first inning. TC3 came back with single runs in the fourth and fifth, but couldn’t put the tying run across. Bannon went 1-for-3 with a double and a run batted in to pace the offense.
— In a late Tuesday game, the Panthers earned a 6-0 win over the Canadian club team WBS. Pitcher Brianna Sheppard earned TC3’s first shutout win of the year, going all seven innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four. Brooke Wierzbicki powered the offense with a two-run homer while Greenough went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
TC3 softball’s spring trip to Cocoa concludes today with a single game against Macomb Community College from Michigan.
