Cortland High’s Aaron Boyland runs in the 1,600-meter race during Friday’s 77-64 OHSL Freedom Division track loss to Chittenenango.

The Cortland High boys’ and girls’ track teams both fell to visiting Chittenango in their OHSL Freedom Division openers Friday.
The Bears won the boys’ meet 77-64, while their girls’ team was victorious 94-47.
Bayshawn Barlow won the long jump at 20-0.5 and teamed with Jonathan Prior, Dan Foster and Caleb Wright to win the 400-meter relay in 47.6 as double winners for Cortland boys. In addition, Eric Reisweber won the pole vault at 10-6 and Caleb Wright the triple jump at 38-1.
“Overall for the opener, the kids did a good job,” Purple Tigers coach Bob Vidulich said. “Our spring guys did a good job. Robert Sanders did an awesome job in the 400 (third), 800 (second) and shot put (third). Chris Yamamoto took a nice second and third in the hurdles (1:06.9 in the 400m intermediate hurdles and 18.1 in the 100m high hurdles, respectively) and was also third in the pole vault.
“Our field events went pretty well. If we hadn’t scored well in those it would have been no contest,” he added, that strong showing including a sweep in the long jump with Prior second at 18-0.5 and Wright third at 17-0.5.
— Angi Simmons was a triple winner for Cortland, taking the 100m (13.2), 200m (27.6) and high jump (4-8), while Georgianna Perelka won the 1,500m (5:34.4) and 3,000m (12:17). Maddie Forrester was second in the 400m (1:10.4) and third in the 100m (14.4).
Both Cortland teams visit Jamesville-DeWitt Wednesday, with Fulton also competing in the meet.
