Central City holds off Red Jug

Jeff Hopkins, Chris Carlton and Billy Francis each had two hits as Central City scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before holding on for a 12-11 victory over Red Jug Pub in Cortland Men’s Slowpitch A Division softball action Tuesday.
In other A Division contests, Bell Construction/Adhan Piping Inc. downed Woody’s 16-14 and Ink’d was a 12-5 victor over Coach’s Corner.
In B Division play, Brix edged Easy Street 9-7 and King Subs topped Gator’s 11-6.
Central City 12, Red Jug Pub 11: Central City trailed 10-8 before the home team collected those four late runs to take a 12-10 lead. Hopkins (two RBIs) and Carlton (two runs scored) each went 2-for-3 for Central City while Francis was 2-for-4. Pat Casselberry added a home run and two RBIs to the winning cause.
Kyle Rogers was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Red Jug Pub who did score once in the top of the seventh inning. Jason Seamans added a 2-for-3 effort to the Pubsters effort.
Bell Construction/Adhan Piping 17, Woody’s 14: Bell/Adhan had a 17-4 lead entering the seventh inning before Woody’s exploded for 10 runs in its final at-bat to make things interesting.
Casey Crandall led Bell/Adhan by going 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and three runs scored. Nick Baker (two doubles) and Mike Zaccardo (double, home run) each added 3-for-4 efforts with three runs scored. Troy Boice, Brian Keefer and Frank Tibke were each 2-for-4.
Matt Compton and J.D. Byrnes each went 4-for-5 for Woody’s. Compton socred three runs, Byrnes two. Tyler Lanning added a 3-for-5 bat with two doubles and three runs scored.
Ink’d 12, Coach’s Cormer 5: Coach’s Corner closed a 7-1 gap to 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning, but Ink’d sealed the deal with a five-run burst in the bottom of the sixth.
Josh Sutton went 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a triple to lead the Ink’d attack. Jeremy Sutton was also 4-for-4. Corey Romans (double, triple) and Kirk Arnold added 3-for-4 bats to the winning effort while Randy Phillips was 3-for-5 with a triple.
Jim Hogan (triple) and David Pitts (double) each swung 3-for-3 bats for Coach’s Corner. Anthony Pitts added a 2-for-3 effort with one home run.
Brix 9, Easy Street 7: After each team scored six first-inning runs, Brix needed two runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 9-7 triumph.
Mike Wiese led the winning attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Tonee LaBar added a 2-for-4 bat with a home run and double.
Derek Fiene was 4-for-4 for Easy Street. Brian Dyer pitched in with a 3-for-4 effort and two runs scored.
King Subs 11, Gator’s 6: King Subs topped Gators by winning 11-6 in an epic muddy battle.
‘Parg’ Squad Still Unbeaten
Two more softball victories were picked up by unbeaten’s in the Jim Partigianoni Coed League this past Saturday in Cortland.
Tim Wright got started on a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 and driving in a pair of runs in a 9-3 win over ABL. Katrina Fox, Jeremy Devereese, Peter Wells and Alexis Young were all 3-for-4 in the victory, Devereese driving home three teammates and Fox picking up a pair of RBI.
Wright and Amanda McLaughlin were both 4 a perfect -for-4, with Wright hitting a home run, in a 12-5’s victory over Paddy’s Pub. Wright drove in three runs, McLaughlin had two RBI and Devereese, Eric Hubbard and Walker Reynolds were 3-for-4 with their bats as’s improved to 4-0 on the season.
