Ivan’s remains unbeaten by turning back Friends

Corey Romans stroked two doubles and was the winning pitcher as Ivan’s improved to 9-0 in Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch League’s National Division with an 8-6 softball triumph over Friends on Friday.
In other National Division games, King Sub edged Outdoor Solutions 17-15, Hess downed Tavern B 17-9 and Meldrim Paint defeated CCRP 18-3.
In American Division action, Grand Rental Station/Gable Inn stopped Stone Lounge/Willcox Tires 16-4, Central City Bar & Grill defeated Beer Goggles 18-4, Gator’s Tavern ripped Red Jug Pub 18-7 and Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s downed Hooley’s 19-4.
Ivan’s 8, Friends 6: Art Buchanan, Jr. and Rick Stauber added 2-for-3 efforts in Ivan’s ninth win of the season. Terry Metcalf provided a 2-for-4 bat. T. Ortiz was 4-for-4 for Friends. R. Parker added his 3-for-3 effort and Ju. Baker was 2-for-4.
King Sub 17, Outdoor Solutions 15: Tony Bates keyed a five-run, one-out outburst with a home run in the top of the seventh inning to help King Sub get the runs needed to secure the victory. Chuck Wilbur swung a 4-for-5 bat with a double and triple for the winners. Brad Sturdaveant, Mitch Bush and Bob Gable were all 3-for-4. Dave Forehand was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Outdoor Solutions, who made things interesting with six runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Hess 17, Tavern B 9: Cody Clayton and Tony Keegan each went 3-for-4 with a home run while A.J. Rouse smacked two homers for Hess. Vic Quaile was also 3-for-4 for the winning team. Jarrod Newcomb and Paul Yarnell paced Tavern by going 3-for-4. Pete Natale (triple) and Kenn Pease added 2-for-3 efforts.
Meldrim Paint 18, CCRP 3: Mike Myers played long ball as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double to lead Meldrim Paint to victory. Gary Talbot added a 4-for-5 bat with two doubles, B. Morton was 3-for-4 with a triple and Jason Seamans was 3-for-4 with a double to aid the winning effort. Fred St. John was 2-for-3 for CCRP and L. Boreland went 2-for-2.
Grand Rental/Gable 16, Stone Lounge/Willcox 4: Seth Montgomery was 3-for-3 with two doubles as Grand Rental Station/Gable Inn took charge with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brian Taylor helped out by going 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles while Jamie Buck (triple) and Chuck Pitts (double) were each 2-for-4. Jeremy Deversee and Chris Beebe each went 2-for-3 for Stone Lounge/Willcox Tires.
Central City 18, Beer Goggles 4: Frank Tibke powered Central City to the win as he was a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs. Dennis Hopkins (HR, 4 RBIs), J. Hogan, A. Levine and S. Case chipped in as each batter was 3-for-4. M. Harrington was 2-for-3 for Beer Goggles.
Gator’s 18, Red Jug Pub 7: Tonee Labar paced Gator’s with his 4-for-5 effort that included two doubles, one home run and four RBIs. Brian Hollenbeck also went 4-for-5 while Dave Hubbard (double), John Wright, Mike Wehnke and Steve Horner (4 RBIs) each provided 3-for-4 efforts. Mike Browngardt delivered two doubles for Red Jug Pub.
Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 19, Hooley’s 6: Eddie Shea was 4-for-4 to lead Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s to the win. Jason Reynolds added a 3-for-3 effort. Stage was 3-for-3 for Red Jug Pub.
