TTC’s Perkins tosses no-hitter

Strong pitching efforts, including a no-hitter, kept both Dryden Tompkins Trust & Insurance and Homer Withiam unbeaten in the Cortland County Babe Ruth League on Tuesday.
Pat Perkins came up with the no-hitter as Dryden TTC defeated Homer Austin 5-1, the South Division baseball leaders improving to 4-0 on the season.
Homer Withiam had hurlers Tyler Signor, Matt Compton and Hugh Kiernan combine on a one-hitter to nip Cortland Moose 2-1. Homer Withiam is off to a 4-0 start and leads the North Division standings.
Elsewhere, Cortland Alliance Bank won its first game by defeating visiting McGraw 11-8, the Cortland Eagles topped Tully 14-12 behind pitcher Ryan Flatt and Fabius rolled past Homer Blue 12-4.
Dryden TTC 5, Homer Austin 1: Perkins struck out six and allowed a lone sixth inning run for Dryden, while the winners collected nine hits at Guido Field in Cortland.
Two runs in the third gave Dryden the lead for keeps. A walk, an error and an RBI single by Isaac Vanderweert did that damage. Four base hits helped add three more runs in the fifth.
Alex Freyburger was 2-for-2 and walked twice for Dryden, scoring twice, while Andrew Barber stroked a double. Homer Austin scored its lone run in the sixth on a passed ball.
Homer Withiam 2, Cortland Moose 1: Homer Withiam trailed 1-0 before winning this pitcher’s duel by scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin McNeill hit a two-run triple off hard-luck losing pitcher Dylan Stafford. In six strong innings, Stafford allowed just three hits and racked up eight strikeouts.
But starter Signor, Compton and Kiernan were just as tough, teaming up for 11 strikeouts. Compton picked up the win with two scoreless innings of work that featured four strikeouts, with Kiernan pitching a perfect final two innings while whiffing three batters.
McNeil’s game-winning triple was part of a 2-for-3 showing for Homer Withiam.
Cortland Alliance Bank 11, McGraw 8: Down 3-2, a seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth put Alliance Bank ahead for keeps.
Starting pitcher Kody Cranston allowed just one hit in five innings for the win, Vinnie Bellardino coming on to earn a save. Y. Brian Hughes drove in three runs with a 3-for-4 bat, while Brian Etz and Cranston added two hits apiece.
McGraw was held to two hits, a triple and single off the bat off Chris Torres.
Cortland Eagles 14, Tully 2: Pitcher Flatt allowed just four hits and struck out a dozen batters for the Eagles. Flatt (3x4), Alex Boyland (3x4), Josh Cook (2x4) and Brendan Passalugo (2x4) powered the offense. A couple of nice grabs in centerfield by Noah Bishop robbed two Tully hitters of extra-base hits.
Losing hurler D. Brown (10 Ks) doubled and scored twice for Tully.
Fabius 12, Homer Blue 4: The Fabius Falcons pounded out 14 hits to beat the Blue, including a triple by Casey Blanck. Winning pitcher Zach Thomas helped himself out with a double. Tyler McMullen homered for the Blue.
