Division leader in great escape

John Pensyl was a perfect 4-for-4 to help first-place Bow Jen Archery/American Legion Post 489 complete two comebacks, including a five-run winning burst in the top of the sixth inning, for a 12-11 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League B Division softball victory over an upset-minded Tavern gang.
In other B Division action from Tuesday, Red Jug Pub downed NAPA 13-3 and Gator’s Tavern edged Ivan’s 10-8.
In A Division play, GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel tamed Red Dragon 18-7, Grand Rental Station routed Woody’s A 20-2 and Central City clipped Beer Goggles 10-3.
Bow Jen Archery/Post 489 12, The Tavern 11: Bow Jen built an early 3-0 lead after two innings, but The Tavern scored seven times in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead. Bow Jen tied four times in the top of the fifth to tie the game, but the Tavern retook an 11-7 lead in the bottom of the same inning. After the division leaders scored five runs in the sixth to cap the come-from-behind victory. The Tavern could not counter.
Eugene Forehand helped his own pitching cause by going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Tony Ortiz added a 2-for-3 effort. Pete Natale was 3-for-4 for The Tavern.
Red Jug Pub 13, NAPA 3: Red Jug took charge with five runs in the top of the fourth inning for an 8-3 lead.
Chuck Benjamin led the winning attack by going 4-for-5 with a double. Kris Terwilliger added a solid 3-for-5 bat with w triple and home run. Trevor Norman, Mike Browngardt, Nate Leonard and Adam Reeners were also 3-for-5 while Mike Reeners was 3-for-4. Steve Phillips and John Canzano each swung 2-for-3 bats for NAPA.
Gator’s 10, Ivan’s 8: Tim Dovi was 4-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs as Gator’s built a 9-5 cushion through five innings. Ivan’s plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Gator’s closed the door on the rally.
Scott Thomas aided the winning offense by going 3-for-3. Dave Hubbard and Tom Cullip each provided two doubles. Corey Romans and J. Sutton each went 2-for-3 for Ivan’s.
GSG Vincent/St. Charles 18, Red Dragon 7: GSG grabbed a big 14-3 lead after scoring seven runs in both the first and second innings before cruising to the win.
Andrew Pierce led the winning attack by going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run and three runs scored. Jason Reynolds (two doubles) and Vinny Siebel (triple) added 2-for-4 bats with Troy Boice going 3-for-4. Chris Poli was 3-for-4 for Red Dragon. Mark Coon chipped in with his 2-for-3 effort.
Grand Rental 20, Woody’s A: The division leaders broke open a 2-1 game with 14 runs over a three-inning span that concluded with a seven-run top of the fifth,
Coy Potter was 4-for-4 and Seth Montgomery went 4-for-5 to lead the 24-hit assault. Dan Harris provided the power by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run.
Dave Seamans and Jeremy Devereese each went 2-for-3 for Woody’s
Central City 10, Beer Goggles: Dennis Hopkins was 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored as Central City notched its 12th win of the season.
Cory Langtry added a 3-for-4 effort while Adam Levine, Sparky Case and Jeff Hopkins added two hits each. Zack Randolph was 2-for-3 for Beer Goggles. Matt Rutkowski added a double in three at-bats.
