Two huge innings boost Gator’s/Natoli’s

Tied at 4-4 through three innings of Sunday’s Cortland Men’s Over 35 Slowpitch League softball outing, Gator’s/Natoli’s quickly settled the issue by going on an impressive run rampage.
After pulling away with 10 runs in the top of the fourth frame, Gator’s/Natoli’s crossed the plate 11 more times in the fifth en route to an easy 34-11 victory over Gator’s II. The winners cranked out 41 hits in the offensive spree.
Gator’s/Natoli’s improves to 4-1 on the season, still lurking a game behind unbeaten Red Dragon who surged past Stone Lounge 17-13 in the other contest. The league-leaders trailed 6-5 through three innings before scoring a dozen unanswered runs over the next three frames.
Gator’s/Natoli’s 34, Gator’s II 11: Jeff Palmer did the most damage in the Gator’s/Natoli’s lineup while hitting for the cycle — his 5-for-6 plate performance featuring a home run, triple, a pair of doubles and a single. Steve Young was also 5-for-6 in the romp.
Jason Hutchings was a perfect 4-for-4 for Gator’s II, who collected 24 hits in all.
Red Dragon 17, Stone Lounge 13: Doug Contri was 5-for-5 and scored three times, Ed Kelly drove in three runs with a 4-for-5 bat and Dave Seamans homered while going 3-for-5 with three RBIs for Red Dragon. Tim Stogstill added three hits and Dan Edwards drove in a couple of runs for the winners.
Tim Metcalf, Dan Cruz and Danny Marks were all 3-for-4 for Stone Lounge, who made things interesting with a seven-run revival in the bottom of the seventh. Clayton Skinner (2x3), Marks and Metcalf each drove in two runs.
