Dragons capture slugfest

Trailing 14-4 after four innings, Red Dragon rallied for six runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the sixth Friday night en route to a 17-16 softball win over O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions in the Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League’s B Division.
In other B Division action, Gator’s Tavern was a 14-4 winner over Stone Lounge and The Tavern shaded Brix 3-2.
In the A Division, Central City/JMS Plumbing & Heating topped Study Hall 21-5 in a five-inning mercy rule contest.
B DIVISION
Red Dragon 17, O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions 16: Dan Edwards singled home Jim Beattie with what proved to be the winning run to cap Red Dragon’s seven-run sixth inning. Edwards, Ed Kelley (three RBIs, three runs scored), Jose Feliciano (double, RBI, two runs), Mark Coon (three runs) and Steve Wright (double) all went 3-for-4 for the winners, while Jim Beattie was 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs and Chris Beattie had a double and three RBIs.
Garrett Stage went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs, while Chad Parker was 3-for-4 with a home run, Nick Baker was 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs and Bob McAnulty doubled home two runs.
Gator’s Tavern 14, Stone Lounge 4: Gator’s got off to a quick start with four runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Tony Bates went 3-for-4 with a triple while winning pitcher Andy Warholic also went 3-for-4 and Bob Durbin was 2-for-3. Nick Hoffmann and Luis Carrian had two hits each for Stone Lounge.
The Tavern 3, Brix 2: The game was scoreless until The Tavern scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth and held Brix to two runs in the top of the seventh for the win. Nick Peters and Ralph Holl both went 2-for-3 for The Tavern, while Nick Mishlanie gunned a runner down at home to choke off a sixth-inning Brix rally. Mike Wiese and M. Beckley had two hits each for Brix.
A DIVISION
Central City/JMS 21, Study Hall 5, 5 innings: The winners trailed 5-4 after an inning and a half but rallied with four runs over the next two innings, then exploded for 13 runs in the fourth and held Study Hall scoreless in the fifth to end the game. Jeff Hopkins (two RBIs) and Bill Francis (RBI) both went 3-for-3 for Central City/JMS, while Shawn Lansing went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Jeff Carr was 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs. Jerry Rushak went 2-for-2, Steve Young had a 2-for-3 night and Derrick Rainbow tripled for Study Hall.
