Central City extra pleased

Central City Bar & Grill scored nine runs in the top of the eighth inning Tuesday night and wound up scoring a 22-15 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch A Division softball win over GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel in a battle for second place.
Central City also beat Woody’s A 15-8 in the completion of a game suspended by rain earlier this season.
Regular-season A Division champion Grand Rental Station scored a pair of one-run victories. Grand Rental pulled out a 16-15 victory over Beer Goggles with the winning run scoring in the top of the eighth and prevailed 12-11 over GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel. Also in the division, Woody’s A beat Red Dragon 10-8.
Ivan’s was a 7-6 winner over NAPA in a B Division game, while in the C Division Woody’s C beat Stone Lounge 10-3.
Central City 22, GSG Vincent/St. Charles 15, 8 inn.: Trailing 10-9 after six innings, Central City scored four run in the top of the seventh to take a 13-10 lead, only to have GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel score three times in the bottom of the seventh to deadlock the contest. Seven of the winners’ runs in the eighth came with two outs.
Josh Bogdan went 3-for-3 with a double for Central City, while winning pitcher Tim Bauman went 3-for-4 and scored four runs. Having 3-for-5 nights were Bill Francis (triple, two RBIs), Jeff Carr (home run), Dennis Hopkins (triple) and Lee Bauman (double).
Central City 15, Woody’s A 8: Hopkins led the way for Central City in the completion of the suspended game with a 4-for-4 night that included a double and three RBIs, while Carr (homer, three RBIs) and Tim Bauman (triple), who was again the winning pitcher, both went 2-for-3. Jeremy Deverese went 4-for-4 with a triple and Chris Kabanuk went 2-for-3 for Woody’s A.
Grand Rental 16, Beer Goggles 15, 8 inn.: After turning a double play to stop a Beer Goggles rally that had led to two runs and a tie game, Grand Rental Station scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the eighth and held on. Seth Montgomery went 4-for-5 with a double for GRS, while Dan Harris was 3-for-4 with a double and triple, Brian Taylor 3-for-5 and Mark Kinner 2-for-4 with two homers. Darren Foster went 4-for-4 with a homer and Matt Rutkowski was 4-for-5 with a double and homer for Beer Goggles.
Grand Rental 12, GSG Vincent/St. Charles 11: Trailing 10-9, Grand Rental scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take control. Harris went 4-for-4 with a double while Casey Crandall (double, two homers), Jason Hogan (double) and Anthony Pitts all went 3-for-4 and Cody Potter was 2-for-3. Ryan Mayo went 4-for-4 with a homer in the losing cause, while teammates Mike Zaccardo (two doubles) and Andrew Pierce both went 3-for-4.
Woody’s A 10, Red Dragon 8: Woody’s A overcame a 6-0 deficit after two innings to win, led by 3-for-4 performances by Dave Seamans (triple), Ed Shay (triple) and Chuck Pitts (double). Dick Arnold and Ed Kelly both went 4-for-4 for Red Dragon, and Steve Wright went 3-for-4 with a homer.
Ivan’s 7, NAPA 6: Ivan’s was another team that had to rally to win, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 5-3 deficit and take the lead for good. Josh Sutton homered twice and joined teammates Scott Knight (triple), John Canzano (double), Jeremy Sutton, Tim Metcalf and Rob Button with 2-for-3 success for Ivan’s. Brian Dyer went 4-for-4 with a double for NAPA, complemented by Adam Potter, who went 3-for-3, and Greg Zacek, who went 3-for-4 with a double.
Woody’s C 10, Stone Lounge 3: Woody’s C got all the runs it would need in a five-run first and rolled to victory, Pat Wing going 3-for-3 with an RBI while Mike Eves was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Tim Carr 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs and winning pitcher Justin Goodband 2-for-4. Brandon Frost bashed a three-run homer.
