McCabe sparks Varsity Liquor

Chris McCabe was 4-for-4 with three triples and provided a big spark as Varsity Liquor scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 6-3 deficit and posted the 10-6 triumph over Easy Street/Reality Check in Cortland Women’s Slowpitch Softball League E Division action Wednesday.
In other E Division play, CCRP blanked Friends 3-0 and Ho-Beau’s Cayuga XPress edged Ivan’s 10-7.
In C Division action, Paddy’s Pub/Elm Tree Golf Course held off Jack’s Taxidermy 11-8, Hairy Tony’s outlasted Stone Lounge 14-11 and Ivan’s nipped Gator’s/Franklin Rock 8-7.
In D Division play, Palm Gardens dumped Deli Downtown 12-5.
Varsity Liquor 10, Easy Street/Reality Check 6: Easy Street played solid defense and held built a 6-3 lead through five innings before the Varsity Liquor bats woke up in the sixth inning. In addition to McCabe, Alexis Young (double), Kellie Maher and Sam Van Dee sparked the winning offense.
Michaela Burhans and Jody Ward hit triples for Easy Street/Reality Check.
CCRP 3, Friends 0: Chrystal Talbot and Pam Wenck locked up in a real pitchers’ duel. CCRP plated runs in the bottom of the second, fourth and sixth innings.
Tina Bastian was 3-for-3 for CCRP while Talbot helped her own cause by going 2-for-3. Tiffany Hubbard (2-for-3) and Tish Hollenbeck hit doubles for the winners.
Julie F. was 2-for-3 with a double for Friends.
Ho-Beau’s/Cayuga XPress 10, Ivan’s 7: Ho-Beau’s.Cayuga XPress trailed 6-3 after two innings before tying the game with a three-run third inning burst. Trailing 7-6, the XPress rallied with two runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
Crissy Colasurdo hit a triple for the winners while Katie Reif, Stacie Harris and Laurna Henderson belted doubles.
Michelle Dalton homered for Ivan’s with Zenta Smith ripping a double.
Paddy’s Pub/Elm Tree GC 11, Jack’s Taxidermy 8: Paddy’s/Elm Tree jumped to a comfortable 11-2 lead after five innings, but Jack’s never quit. Three runs in the top of the sixth and four more runs in the seventh pulled Jack’s to within three runs, but the rallied stalled out.
Kim Frost and Melea Bartley were 2-for-3 for Paddy’s/Elm Tree.
Mary Griffin and Sueann Stahlman swung 2-for-4 bats for Jack’s.
Hairy Tony’s 14, Stone Lounge 11: Hairy Tony’s got a balanced offensive attack as Linda Rabusin (double), Christella Yonta, Krista Gillette and Anna Whitmore each went 2-for-3. Hairy Tony’s scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break an 8-8 tie before four runs in the seventh provided the winning margin.
Carrie Mikela (double) and Katie Clay paced Stone Lounge by going 3-for-4. Gina Amici (double) and Ashley Brown added 2-for-4 bats.
Ivan’s 8, Gator’s/Franklin Rock 7: Ivan’s overcame a 7-4 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to knot the score. In the final at-bat, Ivan’s scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Corinne Russell and Jolene Ferringer each went 3-for-4 with two doubles for Ivan’s. Carissa Smith also went 2-for-3.
Becky Reynolds led the Gator’s/Franklin Rock offense with her 3-for-3 effort.
Palm Gardens 12, Deli Downtown 5: Darci Gumaer went 5-for-5 and Sue Recor hit a triple as Palm Gardens rolled to victory.
Marci Griffin hit two doubles to lead the offensive attack for Deli Downtown.
