CNY Marauders 12, Nirchi’s 6: Nirchi’s got on the board first when a lead-off walk to Mike Hawley turned into an unearned run. Hawley stole second and came around to score on a errant throw back to the pitcher that ended up in the outfield. After that inning Hartnett settled in and got the next 13 batters out before giving up a base hit to Evan Karre. The runner was quickly erased when Payten Boice started a 6-3 double play to end the fifth inning.
The Marauders had taken a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Hartnett lead off the inning with a walk and came around to score on a double off the bat of Dylan Stafford (3-for-4). Stafford moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a fielder’s choice by Kyle Ritz. Stafford also scored the third run of the game scoring on base hit by Ritz in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Marauders put five runs on the board, increasing their lead to 8-1 scoring on several passed balls and a base hit by Hartnett.
The long inning may have gotten to Hartnett who gave up three hits and was hurt by his defense in the top of the sixth. Nirchi’s was able to plate five runs to cut the lead to 8-6. Hartnett came out after pitching 5-2/3 innings and turned the ball over to Boice. Boice threw two pitches and stopped the Nirchi rally to end the sixth.
Parker Williamson lead off the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored on a hit by Leo Riley. A couple more passed balls and a RBI bases loaded walk to Boice the Marauders increased their lead to 12-6.
Boice came out to throw the seventh inning and struck out two, including the final out, to preserve the playoff win for the Marauders. Sully Hartnett added two hits to help pass the hitting for the Marauders.
Cortland Crusaders 11, Tioga 8: The Crusaders took control of the game early, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the second. Going 2-for-3 for the winners were Quinn Kennedy (two RBIs), Justin Sidebottom (two RBIs), Andrew Babcock (two doubles, RBI), Greg Brown (RBI) and Zach Whelan (RBI), while Caden Giroux had a two-run double in the second.
