Gator’s sweeps to end regular season

Dicky Arnold belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning for the winning runs as Gator’s Tavern topped The Tavern 10-9 as part of the doubleheader winning day in Cortland’s Men’s Over-35 Slowpitch Softball League action Sunday. Gator’s also posted an 18-9 victory over Hairy Tony’s/Paddy’s Pub on the final regular season day.
In another contest, JT Fence/Friends was a 9-2 winner over Red Dragon.
Gator’s Tavern 10, The Tavern 9: Gator’s took a 4-1 lead after one inning, but it was Arnold’s long ball that brought the sixth, and  final, lead change of the close contest. The Tavern took score twice in the top of the sixth to pull to within one run.
Randy Arnold was 3-for-3 for Gator’s with Kevin Wellings and Steve Horner each collecting two hits.
Gator’s 18, Hairy Tony’s/Paddy’s Pub 9: Gator’s plated nine runs in the top of the third inning to pad its 4-3 lead and pulled away for the victory. Kevin Wellings (4-for-5) and Andrew Pierce (3-for-3) hit back-to-back homers during the big inning. Steve Horner, Steve Young and Randy Arnold added three hits each to the wining 25-hit attack.
Mike DuBrava and Ed Kelley each went 3-for-4 for Hairy Tony’s/Paddy’s Pub.
JT Fence/Friends 9, Red Dragon 2: JT Fence/Friends used a solid defensive effort to hold Red Dragon to just two runs and five hits in this win. Offensively, P.J. Dwyer went 3-for-4 and Bob Goldsboro was 2-for-3.
