Furlong HR saves Bow Jen/Post 489

Steve Furlong hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday evening as Bow-Jen/American Legion Post 489 beat Gator’s Tavern 13-12 in the opening game of the Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League’s B Division championship softball series.
In the other divisional final openers, Outdoor Solutions was a 12-9 winner over King Sub in the C Division and GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel beat Grand Rental Station 21-16 in the A Division. all three best-of-three series continue Thursday with third games, if necessary, on Friday.
B DIVISION
Bow-Jen/Post 489 13, Gator’s Tavern 12, 8 innings: Gator’s, the third-place finisher in the regular season, scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game before Furlong’s blast saved the regular-season champs.
Each team scored three runs in the first and four more in the second before Bow-Jen took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third. Gator’s matched that in the top of the fourth and took the lead with two runs in the fifth before Bow-Jen/Post 489 answered with four runs of its own in the bottom of the same inning.
Waylon DeGraw went 4-for-4 for the winners, while Codi Clayton (double, two homers), David Forehand (triple, homer) and Nick Hoffmann (triple were all 3-for-4. Dave Hubbard (double, homer) and Billy Epp (double) both went 3-for-4 for Gator’s.
C DIVISION
Outdoor Solutions 12, King Sub 9: A seven-run sixth inning pulled regular-season champion Outdoor Solutions out of a 9-5 hole and accounted for the final score. Tim Rogers went 3-for-3 with a double, Josh Barber homered and Greg Eaton drove in three runs for the winners.Greg Carrier homered for King Sub, the second-place finisher in the regular season.
A DIVISION
GSG Vincent/St. Charles 21, Grand Rental 16: The winners, who finished third during the regular season, trailed first-place Grand Rental Station 7-3 after four innings but scored five times in each of the next two innings and exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh to seal the verdict.
Billy Kerry went 5-for-5 for GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel, while Frank Tibke (four runs scored) and Andrew Pierce (three runs) both went 4-for-5. In addition, Mike Bennison was 3-for-3 with three runs, Mike Zaccardo 3-for-4 with two runs and Eric McLaughlin (three runs) and Troy Boice (run) were both 3-for-5.
Mark Kinner went 4-for-4 with four runs and Casey Crandall drove in seven runs and scored twice in going 3-for-5 for Grand Rental Station, with Jason Hogan and Dan Harris both going 3-for-4 with three runs. Other than Crandall’s, individual RBIs weren’t reported, and neither were extra-base hits.
