Baker paces Paddy’s/281 victory

Lynn Baker swung her 4-for-4 bat as Paddy’s Pub/281 Bowl withstood a late charge by Gator’s Tavern to post a 10-6 Cortland Women’s Slowpitch Softball League C Division victory Wednesday night. Paddy’s/281 will look to continue its regular season success in the post-season tournament.
In other C Division contests, Franklin Rock/Central City shut out’s Pizza 7-0 and Hairy Tony’s slammed One Cent Saloon 16-1.
In D Division drama, Red Jug Pub downed Homer Logging 7-2.
In E Division play, Ivan’s Dave’s Auto doubled up Tioga Hardwoods/Cutia’s Auto 6-3 in eight innings, Ho-Beau’s/Doug’s Fish Fry dumped Dark Horse 6-2 and Easy Street/Stupid Choppers routed The Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage 22-10.
Paddy’s Pub/ 281 Bowl 10, Gator’s Tavern 6: Paddy’s/281 built a nice 7-1 lead over five innings before Gator’s exploded for five runs of its own in the top of the sixth inning to make it a one-run game. The home team kept its composure and plated three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and sealed its victory.
Kristina Abbott (double) and Jonna Johnson (triple) added 3-for-4 bats to the winning cause.
Allyson Barber and Becky VanWagenen (double) each went 3-for-3 for Gator’s.
Franklin Rock/Central City 7,’s 0: Franklin Rock/Central City jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Courtney Rainbow drilled a two-run triple and Katrina Fox belted a home run during the opening onslaught. Fox also hit a double while the entire team played solid defense in holding the opposition off the scoreboard despite allowing 13 hits.
Hairy Tony’s 16, One Cent Saloon 1: Anna Dovi went 4-for-4 with a double and home run as Hairy Tony’s used a five-run first inning as a springboard for the big win. Kelly Daley, Bridget Kentch and Stephanie Oyer each added 3-for-4 bats to the winning cause.
Losing pitcher Sue Apley was 3-for-3 and accounted for nearly half of her team’s eight hits.
Red Jug Pub 7, Homer Logging 2: Molly Reagan went 3-for-3 with a triple as red Jug Pub scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Shannon Allen added a 2-for-3 effort and Lisa Sholar smacked a double for the winners.
Stacey Griswold and Debbie Preston each went 2-for-3 for Homer Logging.
Ivan’s/Dave’s Auto 6, Tioga Hardwood/Cutia’s Auto 3: Halee Riley broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth inning when she smacked a double with the bases loaded, giving her team three valuable runs.
Ho-Beau’s/Doug’s Fish Fry 6, Dark Horse 2: Ho-Beau’s/Doug’s scored four runs in the top of the third inning and led 6-0 before Dark Horse finally strung together four hits to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Laurna Henderson, Katie Reif and Stacie Keleway hit doubles for the winners.
Easy Street/Stupid Choppers 22, Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage 10: Melissa Ward hit a double and home run as part of the 29-hit winning attack by Easy Street/Stupid Choppers.
Bethany Palmer and Staci Schaffer each hit one double for The Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage.
