Stone Lounge sweeps to title

Regular-season Cortland Men’s Fastpitch League softball champion Stone Lounge claimed the playoff championship as well Monday night, beating Mr. B’s 9-2 and 11-10 in eight innings to sweep the best-of-three title series.
Stone Lounge 9, Mr. B’s 2: Roger Karn threw a four-hitter with four strikeouts in the first game and also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to help pace the offense, while Josh Wood went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Matt Rutkowski hit a home run for Mr. B’s, which finished third in the league during the regular season and knocked off defending champion Dark Horse in the first round of the playoffs.
Stone Lounge 11, Mr. B’s 10, 8 innings: Mr. B’s led the second game 10-5 before Stone Lounge came back. Two runs the top of the sixth started the comeback, the first scored on an error and the sceond coming when Abe Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Three runs in the top of the seventh tied the game, as Cale Giroux tripled, Ben Albright doubled and Karn stroked a two-out single.
The winning run came in the top of the eighth on a run-scoring triple by A.J. Meldrim.
Albright and Karn both went 3-for-3 for Stone Lounge, Albright doubling twice, scoring twice and collecting three RBIs. Hurler Karn picked up another win in relief of starter Dick Meldrim.
A.J. Meldrim went 2-for-4 with his game-winning triple while Giroux went 2-for-6 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored.
Eric Miller went 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and three runs for Mr. B’s, while Brandon Casterline went 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and and Rutkowski and Brian Taylor both went 2-for-5.
