Turkey Trot 5K finishes race season

The Cortland YMCA saves the most popular race of their running season for last.
The Turkey Trot 5K will continue its tradition of being a favorite Thanksgiving morning destination, the race to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28. Race organizers are expecting a field of close to 800, which is the largest turnout of the six-race series that begins in the springtime.
The Turkey Trot will start at the YMCA at 22 Tompkins Street, with race day registration opening up in the gymnasium at 7:30 a.m. Traditional Thanksgiving fare will be awarded to age group winners, ranging from turkeys to pies and breads.
A portion of the proceeds from the race is donated to the Cortland Salvation Army. The YMCA is asking each runner and spectator to bring non-perishable food items to be collected at the race for the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry.
Pre-registration is on-going until Nov. 27. Those signing up by Friday are guaranteed a commemorative shirt. Bib numbers and shirts can be picked up at the Cortland YMCA beginning Monday, Nov. 25, for anyone registered by Friday Nov. 22.
For more information, contact the Cortland County Family YMCA at 607-756-2893. You can also visit their site online at or on Facebook. Registration forms are available on our website or at the YMCA front desk.
